The Minnesota Twins saved some money in Monday's trade that sent Jorge Polanco to the Seattle Mariners in a five-player deal.
Overall, the deal saved the Twins $5.25 million this season.
Lead baseball executive Derek Falvey says the Twins will reallocate those savings into the roster. He suggested the club was likely to look for help on the position player side after acquiring a reliever and a rotation option in the Polanco trade.
The Seattle Mariners have discussed a trade for Dylan Cease with the Chicago White Sox, according to a report.
The White Sox are believed to be seeking a package centered around Bryce Miller or Bryan Woo.
Cease seemed likely to be traded earlier this offseason, but his chances of being dealt before Opening Day have dwindled due to the White Sox lofty asking price.
The Baltimore Orioles have received trade calls on young catching prospect Samuel Basallo, according to a report.
Basallo is considered one of the best young backstops in the minors.
The report notes the Orioles "probably would have to be blown away by an offer" to consider moving him at this point in time.
Basallo, who won't turn 20 until August, batted .313/.402/.551 with 20 home runs across three levels last season, including a four-game cameo in Double-A to end the year.
It's been more than a month since the Baltimore Orioles have added to their 40-man roster, but the club is still seeking a starting pitcher.
Orioles general manager Mike Elias first stated his desire to bring in a solid starter at the GM Meetings in November, then reiterated it the following month at the Winter Meetings.
The Orioles have been linked to Dylan Cease for much of the offseason, but could be hoping the price for the Chicago White Sox right-hander will decrease.
"The White Sox are not budging on price, and teams don't seem to have interest in paying that price," a National League executive said last week.
Brian Cashman says the New York Yankees remain open to adding to their roster before Opening Day.
"We're going to be open-minded to ways to improve the team," the general manager said. "Obviously, it's gotta fit within our structure. So, is that a rotation piece? Is that a bullpen piece? Is that anyone we could adjust with the position player group?"
Coming off a season in which they missed the playoffs, the Yankees acquired Juan Soto in a trade with the San Diego Padres.
While Cashman said the Yanks "like what we've got and like what we've done so far," there could be more offseason activity on the horizon as they gear up for the season ahead.
"We're still talking to clubs about trades and we're still talking to agents about players," he said. " … We're having a lot of conversations on the trade front as well as the free agent market."
The Chicago Cubs are "the team to watch" over the remainder of the offseason, according to a report.
The Cubs have been connected to two of the biggest names remaining on the market -- Cody Bellinger and Matt Chapman.
Chicago is also one of the many clubs seeking bullpen help.

The Cubs have shown interest in Cleveland Guardians' closer Emmanuel Clase.
Clase will make $2.5 million this coming season, with respective $4.5 million and $6 million salaries in 2025 and 2026.
The Boston Red Sox are open to adding another right-handed hitter to their outfield rotation, according to a report.
The club remains in contact with free agent Adam Duvall's camp.
Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz says that trade conversations involving Dylan Cease are "ongoing."
Nothing is imminent, but Cease's market could expand as free agent starting pitchers continue to sign with clubs in need of pitching.
"It's ever evolving in terms of the urgency of other clubs," Getz said. "It could be in the offseason. It could at the deadline. It could be in May. There's just so many different factors when you're talking about 29 other clubs.
"There's a lot that goes into any trade transaction. There's a lot of conversations, build up, research and obviously getting it to the finish line. As part of the offseason, we'll continue to do that and find ways to get our club better."
Cease, 28, is under team control for two more seasons at a cost-effective salary: He'll make about $8 million in 2024 through the arbitration system.
